You are not alone

Two Years Without You

Two Years Without You

July 15, 20263 min read

Two years ago, I learnt the true meaning of heartbreak. Two years ago, our precious boy, Dorian, left this earth, leaving a hole that can never be filled.

I'm still in shock that it's been this long. Time seems to have frozen for me 2 years ago, and sometimes I have to check myself when I'm telling the story to someone new - because it honestly feels like it happened maybe 6 months ago at most, and then I realise it's been far, far longer than that.

Just as it was last year, to say that these past few months have been difficult is an understatement. In fact, I feel like in some ways, it was worst than it was last year. This past month has been a struggle, battling health issues not just for myself, but for our second son. It was way too deja vu for my liking with unknown causes as to his health issues, trips to ED with an overnight stay (and even the same doctor who'd attended to Dorian 2 years ago), the anxiety and worry of not knowing what to do or how to help, or if we could even trust the medical team after all we've been through.

All I can say is, it's been two years but the memories and the pain are still fresh. The world has kept spinning, the people in our lives have moved on, but we're caught in a limbo; we're trying to move forward but we're stuck in the grief. We might have healed a little, but there's still a gaping wound in our hearts. There is no timeline for grief, and I'm not sure one can ever fully heal from a grief like this.

And every day, I still wonder why, and how God can restore and work this for good.

Two Years Without You

We had you for nine months in my belly,

And barely seven months after your birth.

Now it’s been 24 months without you,

Two years since you left this earth.

I can’t believe we’ve been without you,

Far longer than we got to keep you.

It doesn’t seem right it’s been this long,

When it still feels so fresh and so new.

It’s hard to picture what you’d be like now;

Time froze for me two years ago.

But sometimes if I imagine hard enough,

It’s like you’re still in my arms with me though.

It’s been two years without you;

How on earth did time go so fast?

I wish it were the same with my pain,

But no, this is a grief that will last.

It’s a book for everyone – for those who have lost a loved one, and also for those who’ve never experienced grief to give you a glimpse into the mind of a griever. Grief needs space, not silence and that’s what this book is: An invitation into the sacred, unspoken spaces of grief.
